With the adoption of Internet Protocol (IP) technology increasingly being used within the security industry, the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) has published a guide for installers to provide a basic understanding of IP in security applications.“As the generation of ‘digital’ systems is seeing a trend towards IP in all applications, security installers are now being asked to provide IP solutions which require an understanding of IT,” says Alex Carmichael, BSIA Technical Director. “This guide provides guidance on the key elements of IP, therefore assisting installers in providing the best service possible for their customers.”
The BSIA installer guide provides comprehensive information on different network types and the assigning of IP addresses to devices in order to pass information between network-attached devices (hosts). The guide also considers the types of transmission devices available, for example cable and wireless, and the vast and varied types of hardware that form a network. The document also offers advice on design and installation considerations.
