Private Security Guards 'Assault and Racially Abuse' Deportees, Alleges The Independent Newspaper

The UK security guarding sector again became the subject of close scrutiny this week as a number of guarding firms providing immigration guarding services to Home Office Detention Centres were accused in an Independent newspaper report of abusing inmates, in stories reminiscent of the Abu Ghuraib scandal.

According to The Independent, a dossier of 200 cases, collated by doctors, lawyers, immigration centre visitors and campaign groups over the past two years, has unearthed shocking claims of physical and mental mistreatment of some of the most vulnerable people in our asylum system.

When engaging contract security services in the UK corporate security managers consider the reputational implications of employing guarding services from companies that are under investigation for abuses of basic human rights.

Selecting a Guarding Contractor will be one of a number of new sessions introduced to Security Management Stage 2 in 2008.

2008 SM2 course dates are as follows:
  • 18 – 29 February 2008 – Kuala Lumpur

  • 13 – 24 October 2008 – UK
