Liquid Explosives Detectors to Be Introduced at UK Airports

A new x-ray screening machine that can automatically detect explosives and liquids in passengers’ hand luggage is to be introduced at the UK’s main airports, reports “The London Paper” newspaper.

The British Airports Authority is to replace all its existing hand luggage check-in facilities at its seven UK airports, including Heathrow and Gatwick, with the new Advanced Threat Identification X-ray (ATIX) system.

ATIX works by using computerised X-rays to take multiple shots of bags instead of single shots, as is the case with current machines.
