Sharp Increase in Violence against Retail Staff in the UK – ARC Training to Introduce Retail Security Course for 2008

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) is calling on the Home Secretary to take urgent action to stem the growing rise in violent crimes against retail staff.

Figures, compiled by the BRC, show a fifty percent increase in incidents of physical violence against shop workers in the past year. Over the same period recorded threats of violence against staff have more than doubled. The interim BRC findings show that:

* Violent acts against staff are up 50 per cent.

* Threats of violence against staff have doubled.

* The number of incidents per store has shot up by 18 per cent.

* Incidents of verbal abuse decreased by 6 per cent.

ARC Training will be introducing its new Retail Security Course 2-4 June 2008. The course has been developed by Barry Vincent, former UK Security Manager for Tesco Stores.
