Keeping Your PC Safe from Online Threats

As more and more workers access IT resources from home, the need to ensure that home PCs are protected to a minimum baseline security standard has never been greater.

According to Mark Ward, BBC Technology Correspondent, there are more than 200,000 malicious programs in existence - the vast majority of which are aimed at subverting Windows PCs. These problem programs can arrive via e-mail, instant messenger, through your internet connection or even your web browser if you visit the wrong website. The threats are so numerous and appear so fast that Windows users must feel under siege.

While there is no doubt that attacks on PC users are getting more sophisticated, it is possible to avoid the vast majority of problems by taking some straight-forward steps and exercising some common sense. Click here to learn more.

These and other IT and information security issues are covered in the forthcoming Security Management Stage 1, 31 March - 11 April 2008, a university-accredited course, which can be attended as a "stand-alone" course, or taken as the first of six elements making up the MSc Work-Based Learning Studies (Corporate Security Management).

For those who have attended Security Management Stage 1 (or equivalent) the next Security Management Stage 2 takes place in Kuala Lumpur, 18 - 29 February 2008.
